The Y is the starting point for many youth to learn about becoming and staying active, and developing healthy habits they’ll carry with them throughout their lives. And the benefits are far greater than just physical health. Whether it’s gaining the confidence that comes from learning to swim or building the positive relationships that lead to good sportsmanship and teamwork, participating in sports at the Y is about building the whole child, from the inside out.


Our Runners and Jumpers class brings imagination, curiosity, problem-solving and personal/social awareness throught group play.
Each 6 week session will follow a different theme that will tie in with planned activities.
Ages 2-5; held on Fridays during the school year.


The Y's Sports Variety program teaches the fundamentals of multiple sports while imporving kids fitness levels, following the rules, learning social skills and increase self esteem and confidence levels. Parent participation is required for our Rookies age group. 2 age brackets.
6 week sessions focus on a new sport each week. Ages 3-8. Held in September and February.

Youth and adults are invited to a spooktacular Halloween dodgeball event. Teams of 5 players will compete for cash prizes. Appropriate costumes are optional but encouraged. 3 age brackets.
Ages 9+ Held end of October.

The Y coaches players on fundamentals, improving skill while participating in some games with friends. Parent participation is required for our Rookies age group.
Ages 3-8. Held in November. 2 age brackets.

YMCA Soccer is designed to encourage participation and having fun. Children are taught basic game skills such as dribbling, passing, shooting as well as goalie skills. Parent participation is required for our Rookies age group. 2 Age brackets.
Ages 3-8. Held in January.

Win your very own Super Bowl by competing in this 5 player dodgeball tournament. Prizes for the winning team in each age bracket. 3 Age brackets.
Ages 9+ Held in February.

3 Point Contest: Participants take shots around the 3-point line while their partner rebounds. 2 different age brackets.
Ages 10+ Held in March.

3 on 3: Basketball tournament. 2 Age brackets.
Ages 10+ Held in March.

Intro to Gymnastics - Develop coordination & fitness through basic gymnastics skills, emphasizing confidence & following directions. Recreational gymnastics program taught year-round. Classes start the first Monday of each month. Registration is required one week before first class. Participants must be ages 3&1/2 & up & potty-trained.

Beginner Gymnastics - Build/improve on a background of skills previously learned.

Intermediate Gymnastics - Improves skills on beam, floor, bars, & vault using drills and conditioning to build strength.

Open Gym Tumble - Structured program monitored by Y gymnastics instructors. Must have tumbling experience. Registration is required.

Instructional camp open to beginner, intermediate and team gymasts. Drills, games, and teamwork will be used to build gymnastic skills on floor, bars, beams, and vault. Participants must be potty-trained.

Blue Fins Swim Team

The Schuylkill YMCA believes that competive swimming develops a great sense of self-esteem and confidence in youth while promoting and instilling a healty, active lifestyle. We promote goal-setting and achievement through a positive mental attitude. Swimmers are taught to measure success based on self-improvement. The Y offers a year-round competitive swimming program with many different opportunities for swimmers to participate. Practice groups are broken into different developmentally appropriate levels. The YMCA reserves the right to cancel, reschedule, or combine classes that do not have sufficient enrollment. Class schedules and fees are subject to change without prior notice. Participants will be notified and may choose an alternate class or receive a credit if an acceptable alternative is not available. Credits are also issued if we are notified of your inability to attend class before the session starts or at any time with a medical excuse. (Weather cancellations are not eligible for credits. Classes will be re-scheduled when possible.) Credits expire if not used within one year of date of issue. Refunds are only issued due to class cancellation, job relocation (see membership refund policy) or a medical excuse with extenuating circumstances.
